CBS Telephone Poll - Crisis of information

I've seen these polls for years and always thought Nobody asked me!
This time they did. I wish however, that I could change just one answer.
 
They asked what do I think is the the most serious problem facing us today. I said national security, because that wraps up foreign policy, energy independence, economic stability, a strong military, and on, and on.
 
What I wish that I had said is that I think we have a crisis of information.
 
That may sound counter-intuitive in an age when we have unprecedented access to information and to knowledge, but it is true.
 
One need only watch or listen to one of the talk shows that does "Man on the street" interviews, or a show like Spike TV's Repo Games to see that we have many people tragically uninformed, and I submit that we have tens of millions of voters who are even more tragically MIS-informed.
 
There is a quote I can't find now, I believe it was Abraham Lincoln, that said words to the effect that when the people are informed, the nation will be safe. It was similar to the Thomas Jefferson below, but different...
 
I heard a career military man and Iraq War combat veteran say that more than half the nation's budget goes to the military. I know where this kind of misinformation comes from, but I can't understand why those who put it out there are never held to account.

Optimist, Pessimist or Realist... You Be The Judge

I’m often accused of being a pessimist, but I prefer to think I’m a realist. Everything DOESN’T always turn out for the best. Our 2010 Presidential election and where we are now is a prime example. We had a choice between “Bad” and “Less Bad”. The nomination of Sarah Palin made “Less Bad” seem LESS Bad, but still not ideal. And in the end, we elected “Bad”.

I’m going to make a leap of optimism, but with a warning.

I’m going to predict that WE THE PEOPLE will have had enough of “Hopey-Changey”, and Democrat arrogance, and even of “Compassionate Conservatism” (which is actually redundant to genuine conservatives), and that we will elect a genuine reform-minded Conservative in 2012. We will throw out another large number of Democrats and a few Republicans-In-Name-Only (for my Democrat friends who have demonstrated they don’t know what a RINO is). Just as some of FDR’s New Deal was found to be unConstitutional, and more was repealed by Congress, much of the Obama agenda—hopefully beginning with Obamacare—will be struck down by the Supreme Court or repealed by a new conservative dominated Congress and conservatie President. The economy will boom once again, and we will once again lead the world to prosperity and relative peace, for a time. If we do it REALLY right, we may even lift enough of the idiotic sanctions on domestic energy production that will allow us to actually rise to the status of a net energy EXPORTER, rather than being energy dependent on countries who really don’t like us very much.
 
Not only that, but the polar ice won't melt, and the oceans won't rise. The time of that massive global fraud first called "Global Warming" and then when it became clear the Earth was NOT warming renamed "Climate Change", is over.
 
All of Obama's pet green energy companies are starting to fail. They are technologies that can only survive with massive government subsidies, and WE THE PEOPLE have had our bellies full of it.
 
But I digress...

For perspective, we have the following to look back to:

  1. The little known Woodrow Wilson Depression of 1920-21.
  2. The Great Depression that FDR’s New Deal did nothing to abate, and in fact maintained an average 17% unemployment rate from 1933 through 1940.
  3. There was the stag-flation of the 1970’s under Jimmy Carter, with double digit inflation, double digit interest rates and prolonged high unemployment.
  4. Now after nearly three years of Obamanomics and “Fundamental Transformation”, we have still a 9% unemployment rate, unprecedented deficits and mountains of new debt, and no light at the end of the spending, deficits or unemployment tunnel.

Each of these has one thing in common that I have made fairly obvious—the “stewardship”, if you will, of a Democrat and very liberal if not self-admittedly Progressive/Redistributionist and arguably Socialist/Marxist/Big Government and Anti-Capitalist President.

Democrats are quick to blame these recessions and depressions NOT on liberal Democrat, big government and anti-business policies, but on the reforms of Republicans who preceded them. FDR to this day is not held responsible for perpetuating the misery of millions for eight long years of Depression, but I heard complaints and calls to impeach George Bush in mid 2001 for supposedly causing a recession that actually started in April of 2000. I also don’t quite know how they get there from a Progressive Taft, or a “moderate” if not downright liberal Richard Nixon (who today would be called “RINO”), but facts and details mean less to Democrats than the letter someone chooses to put after their name. Taft and Nixon were Republicans, and therefore anything THEY did was wrong-headed and actually EVIL—even if these Democrats would have cheered a Democrat who did the exact same thing—and actually DO cheer, when championed by their messiah, Barack Obama.

But Democrats will find a different commonality than I, which is that in each case, these Democrat Presidents were succeeded by a Republican whom they claim somehow screwed things up and made them worse. After Woodrow Wilson, there was Harding. After FDR there was the worst evil of all, WWII, that Democrats also somehow blame on Republicans. In fact, there is some piece of propaganda out there that I keep hearing about, that blames ALL recessions and depressions AND all World Wars on Republican policies.
 
I think when the now 40,000 year overdue Yellowstone super volcano goes off, it will be somehow the result of Republican policies.
 
I have heard the term “Reagan Depression”, for instance, referring to a brief but deep recession early in the Reagan years. This claim completely ignores not only the years of Jimmy Carter induced misery preceding Reagan, but more than a dozen years of sustained economic growth during and following the Reagan Administration—for which an adoring “news” media has given credit to Bill Clinton—credit that he eagerly accepted.

Right here is where the shoe will pinch, and where I may alienate some of my fellow conservatives if they stop reading here. This is the warning I mentioned earlier. The unfortunate fact is that to an extent, Democrats are RIGHT when they blame periods of recession on Republican policies. Even worse, this is the inherent flaw in Capitalism that Karl Marx correctly diagnosed, and then INCORRECTLY treated. Democrats always blame Republicans when deregulation and tax cuts lead to periods of excess such as the “Roaring 20’s”, and then the S&L debacle in 1987, and the Internet and tech bubble of the late 1990’s, which Alan Greenspan called “Irrational Exuberance”.

The problem with this analysis is they take it a step further and deduce that if any deregulation and any tax cuts are ultimately bad, then MORE regulation and HIGHER taxes must be GOOD. They have convinced themselves that it worked for Bill Clinton, so why not? The difference is that during the Clinton years, the economy boomed IN SPITE OF tax increases because of the Internet/tech bubble that was expanding. When that bubble collapsed, they blamed it on George Bush.

Nothing can be further from the truth. What these critical Democrats, and Marxists who call themselves Democrats, like Michael Moore and Barack Obama, always miss or simply ignore, is that bubbles form and expand and then burst or deflate because PEOPLE are imperfect, and therefore even the best economic system man can devise WILL BE IMPERFECT. There seems to be some controversy what Voltaire wrote, and endless reinterpretation to suit individual agendas—basically that "The best is the enemy of good". The main point is that we have to realize that we cannot achieve perfection on this Earth… EVER, and we must recognize what is the best that we Earthly creatures can do, and live with it. That “Best” is at least at this time, a Capitalist, free enterprise system. Marxist, socialist, big government, interventionist, Keynesian systems have in contrast, repeatedly failed and caused massive misery throughout all of human history.

Undeterred, liberals and Marxists alike, perpetually seek an unattainable Marxist or Socialist utopia, and they believe that achieving that utopian “Perfect” system justifies ANY means. Communist Chinese Chairman Mao Zedong refused to change course from his disastrous Great Leap Forward, in spite of resulting economic disruption and famine that killed tens of millions of Chinese. Today Barack Obama is indifferent to the failures of his own policies as he seeks to enact his American Jobs Act (yet another budget busting “Stimulus” by any other name, is just another failed “Stimulus”).

The point is that if we pretend Capitalism is perfect, then we play right into the hands of those who will be always seeking to establish utopia, and who plot to do so by painting Capitalism as a failed system.

When our new crop of conservatives comes into power and establishes a legal and regulatory and taxation and litigatory environment that fosters business growth and economic growth, and a new glut of federal, state, county and city revenues, we must be alert for those who would expand and initiate dramatic new spending programs rather than repairing aging, failing infrastructure and paying down debt. We must be equally vigilant of that time when people begin to say that the market will keep going up forever. When that happens, we need to become fearful and stand up to those who WILL call us naysayers of doom (and who HAVE!), and act accordingly. We must be vigilant for and act to stop the abuses of gamblers and speculators. We must be aware of where the houses of cards will be built on margin debt and multiple layers of leveraging and borrowing piled on more debt, as those with short memories will have forgotten the last time this happened. I’m willing to be convinced otherwise, but I personally would not protest just outlawing the practice of margin debt. We must keep an eye out for the next "Chainsaw" Al Dunlap (Sunbeam), and the next Enron accounting scandals, and the S&Ls and the speculative bubbles to come. And they will. We only deny history to deny that they will come, and we only deny it at our own peril, because waiting on the other side of the collapse and the recession that will inevitably follow, will be the next messiah of the left, blaming “failed” Republican policies of deregulation and tax cuts, professing to have and to be the cure to all that ails us, if we would just give them more power and more control, and if we would just let them raise our taxes yet again, and just pass this next, new “Stimulus”.

I think Barack Obama and his leftist cronies are incompetent enough, and the American people are determined enough that he will fail in his grand design to “Fundamentally Transform” the United States of America. But the next time they just might succeed.

Even If You Trust Obama and the Democrats With Your Healthcare and Your Very Life, Would You Equally Trust Bush and the Republicans?

I have Two Questions for “Good” Democrats and Anyone Else Who Supports Obama

#1 TRUST

I've been working on a storage project at home to store tubs for my wife's teacher stuff when it's not in her classroom.

I always like to have the radio on when I'm working like that, and my mind tends to wander at times.

It occurred to me that those who support Obamacare have a great deal of misplaced trust in the federal government, whether they are lifelong "Good Democrats" (whatever that is), or anyone who voted for Obama for racial reasons, or anyone who just bought into the Hopey-Changey con job, or the con job that Obama is trying to provide coverage for 47 million "uninsured" and/or to cut costs. Some of them are even full-on communists who probably actually do have Soviet hammer and sickle flags hanging in their garage as in the dude with green teeth who was probably an undercover agent for the FBI (I wonder if he was related to Michael Moore...).

They need only look at Canada, England, or any other of the countries that have tried government controlled healthcare, and see what a dismal failure healthcare systems become when run by a government.

If these people think things always work better when Americans do it, then why are Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid bankrupt?

If they think Democrats ideas are so much better than those of Republicans, then why are several Democrat states in this country nearly bankrupt?

Why is every city that has been historically run by Democrats, the poorest in the nation?

Why have both Republicans and Democrats chronically and historically underfunded our VA, and the Indian healthcare systems that are mandated by treaty?

Why are the government run healthcare systems in Massachusetts and Oregon such dismal failures? They both ration care, they have both far exceeded their estimated costs, and in Oregon they blatantly endorse euthanasia for seniors. They both do everything that Obama denies his plan will do.

Here's my real point, and let’s put all partisanship aside for just a moment, if that’s possible.

Even if those supporters of Obamacare believe that Obama and the Democrat controlled Congress can somehow create, implement and run this massive unprecedented in the world in scale and scope program better than they have run Cash for Clunkers or the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, what about when the pendulum inevitably swings back to where the Republicans are in control again? (Unless these folks believe that Obama is trying to use ACORN to cook the next census and to fix the 2010 and 2012 elections, and that the Democrats will now be permanently in control—and if they support that, then they are an enemy of our Constitution and an enemy of this Republic).

Do these people trust their very lives and the lives of their children and loved ones to the Republicans as much as they do the Democrats?

I don't. The Republicans are historically just as guilty of failing to fund the VA and our obligation to the Indian nations healthcare as are the Democrats, and they will treat Joe Six Pack no better.
 

#2 BLAME

The Democrats in DC and the mainstream news media have convinced tens of millions that Bush failed policies and Republican deregulation were the cause of the economic meltdown that occurred during the 2008 campaign.

Here’s what I don’t get—if that were true, then why after six months has this Administration and this Congress done NOTHING to reverse “failed policies of the last eight years”?

Why after six months have they done NOTHING to re-regulate those supposed excessively de-regulated financial institutions?

Anyone who believes that they have done so, please name the legislation and provide the date that Obama signed it.

Instead it seems they are hell-bent on passing massive and sweeping carbon taxes that will literally choke the life out of the businesses and companies and taxpayers in this country in the middle of a deep recession when someone who really wanted re-election should be doing everything possible to stimulate the economy.

Instead it seems they are hell-bent on first spending our grandkids into bankruptcy on Democrat favorite pork projects in the name of “Stimulus”, and then destroying the best healthcare system in the world on the false promises that they are trying to cover those “uninsured”, and to cut costs.

I really would like someone to answer these for me. But any answer that contains “But Bush did…” I will shred, delete or otherwise ignore and dispose of. Obama was supposed to be Mr. Hope and Change, a new kind of politician, new transparency, new ethics, and Bush is no more.

Regardless of political affiliation, it seems to me that anyone has a learning problem who first elects a guy who promises to be different, and then defends his failures and broken promises and not really being any different—just MUCH more of the same, by pointing at what the last guy did.

I Want a Divorce… from Barack Obama

I want a divorce from this President, this Congress, this Governor, this legislature, and this city council…

I was out for a walk last night after working on my house until it was too late to make loud noises outside.

My cellphone can play MP3 music files with headphones, and I have a 2 Gigabyte memory card in my phone loaded with MP3s that I just grabbed at random one night to put some music on my phone.

As I walked, a song started that I haven’t heard in quite some time. It’s the Georgia Satellites, All Over But the Cryin’.

A little background, but where this leads is that this song now speaks to me about those things many of us know about our President that many millions still either like about him, or don’t know about, or willfully deny…

I think every man must have at least one woman in his past who has done him wrong. Mine was 20 years ago, and I now am grateful to her for the lessons I learned both about women, and about myself.

When I first sensed that something was going on, I confronted her and she denied it, but my instincts told me different. I think many women think they have a monopoly on intuition, but they are wrong. Men have it too, but we call it instincts or “gut”, as in “What does your gut tell you?” Most men who don’t think they have it simply don’t know how to listen to it. We’re told almost from birth “Big boys don’t cry!” so we learn to shut off our feelings, which are the fountain from which intuition flows.

In the end I caught her with him and found that she had been lying to both of us, vindicating me and what my “gut” had been telling me in some ways that had even surprised me. He was an abusive alcoholic who believed he had won some kind of prize in her, and so I knew they deserved each other (please don’t make me qualify everything—I would never wish abuse, even on her).

It was finally over and as I was getting on with my life and beginning to heal, one day on the radio I heard this song that had just been released. At the time it was almost as if it had been written for me and where I was in my life.

When I heard it last night, it spoke to me this time about Obama and his lies, and what he’s trying to do to our beloved country.

It just doesn’t take intuition to figure it out, though many tens of millions seem to be completely blind to what he’s trying to do. The more I look at the words, the more parallels I see. So I decided to share this here.

2009: The Year America Died?

When I got home from work Friday night (July 17), and turned on the news, I saw that yet another “celebrity” had died and was being covered wall-to-wall with interview after interview of people who knew him.

My sympathies are with his family, and I pray that God sustain them during this time of loss.

That said, I think Walter Cronkite was a traitor to the country. His lies about Vietnam, and particularly the Tet Offensive are possibly singularly responsible for the destruction of American will to win the fight, and therefore for our “losing” the war. I maintain that we didn’t lose, but after being made to fight for years with one hand tied behind our back, we were forced by a cowardly Congress to withdraw from the battlefield just as the enemy was on the ropes.

But I’ve had this feeling for a while now with all of these “celebrities” who have passed away this year, that I’m waiting for someone to dub this “The year that America died” or something similar.

We’re a sick culture. We’re losing our WWII veterans at a rate of 1,000 a day or so, and I’ve seen at least two stories now of veterans who made it to the D-Day anniversary at Normandy and were gone within a day or two, and you never hear any of THEIR names in the news.

Anyone see where this is going?

There are things much bigger at stake than these Hollywood and TV nitwits who do not deserve the 27 hour a day coverage they are getting. The day Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson died, I could not find mention anywhere in TV news coverage of the Cap and Trade American jobs for Chinese jobs bill that was being voted on in the House the next day. Not even Fox News took a break from its nonstop, and disgustingly looping coverage of Michael Jackson.

Sorry! I’m not one bit disturbed about one less pedophile in this world. Sadly, the self absorbing and shameless Joe Jackson is probably busily making more pedophiles with the help of Viagra. I’m not a bit sad that one of them has died, but I am disgusted that coverage of MJ's death pre-empted ANY TV coverage of one of two most significant pieces of legislation the House of Representatives has ever voted on, and especially the Democrat and Obama Administration shenanigans to get it passed.

It makes me wonder when the House does finally go to vote on the Obama-destroy-America’s-Healthcare bill, what celebrity will mysteriously die the day before to suck out all the oxygen of any substantive news coverage!

Those of us with our eyes open who saw Obama for what and who he is… those of us who LISTENED to his own words as he told us who he is time and time again are now watching as he takes over the auto industry that helped win WWII, and he takes over the financial sector that has been the envy of the world and the world’s monetary standard since the end of WWII, and is trying to tax any use of energy in the country ostensibly to fight phantom global warming, and now pushing arrogantly to take over and nationalize the healthcare industry on an empty promise that he will reduce costs and make it AFFORDABLE for all Americans (and for illegals).

Where have I heard that word AFFORDABLE before?

Sarah Palin, Kool-Aid Drinkers, Independents, Tea Parties and a Third Political Party

I was talking to a coworker yesterday about the current sad state of the nation. I didn’t see it at the time, but in my thinking out loud answer to him, and my quiet time thoughts since then, I’m starting to think there is something big here…


We’re both hardcore conservatives, but he is a lifetime Republican, and I am still registered Independent. He asked me my opinion of what has happened with Sarah Palin. After I gathered my thoughts for a moment, I said that I wonder if the Republican party is just too corrupt to tolerate Sarah Palin.

He told me also of a couple of Republican acquaintances of his who have jumped on the bash Palin bandwagon.

My out-loud train of thought went something like this…

There are two major parties in this country, and there are Kool-Aid drinkers in both of them.
 

The Republican party was nowhere to be found during the campaign when the allegations of Sarah Palin’s spending sprees started. If the party leadership had a shred of integrity, someone would have stood tall and told the press that the PARTY bought those clothes for Palin because she’s the only one on either ticket who’s not a multi-millionaire (more on this later), and she needed appropriate clothes for the campaign! DC and Congress has become a swimming pool for sharks—MILLIONAIRE sharks. Palin is not a wealthy person, and never has been. That has become a rarity in modern American politics.


All we got from the GOP was a Can O’ Crickets.

Then after the crushing loss on November 4th, some of the McCain staffers started making allegations of all kinds about Sarah Palin. In my view it was a bunch of despicable CYOA’ers trying to cover their own for a badly run campaign, and they all should have been immediately called out and fired on the spot. I don’t want people like that in the GOP, nor working in government AT ALL!!!

Oddly, Fox News reporter Carl Cameron seemed to gleefully report these allegations as if they were fact. I’ve wondered about this ever since, and one of my liberal friends pointed this out to me as some kind of "proof" of acceptance even by Fox News of Palin’s incompetence. I said then that I would have fired Cameron for that, but suddenly I see this more clearly than I did even just a few days ago. Now I realize they’re not going to fire him or anyone else for seeming to relish reporting dirt on Palin. That’s just the party line on both the left AND in the Republican elite.

At the very least, I would have expected the Maverick himself to have come out and defend his running mate, but no… His silence continues to be deafening. His only response thus far has been basically “These things happen in campaigns…”

Perhaps...

Later I heard some kind of interview where the Maverick gave what I consider to be an unbelievably lame answer regarding the possibility of Palin running for President in 2012. This is the man who thought Palin would be just fine in a McCain Presidency to be “just a heartbeat away from the Presidency” (to quote the left who has no problem with dunderhead Joe Biden being “just a heartbeat away from the Presidency”).

I’m not having any luck finding the exact quote, but McCain basically talked about some other people who will be players in 2012. I don’t think it was on Jay Leno, but it may have been McCain’s appearance on Hannity on January 16.
 
The point is, rather than give Palin his endorsement or at least support first, and then mention that there are a number of other viable contenders, McCain made a point to name other strong REPUBLICAN Governors and then almost as if an afterthought, express his admiration for Palin.
 

Even Dennis Prager whom I admire greatly, said sometime in March that he didn’t think that answer was “problematic”.

 

What?!?!?!?


I think if even Prager is in the tank for the GOP, then we are screwed.

To be sure, many of those of whom McCain spoke would likely be good if not great Presidents. But they are REPUBLICAN PARTY MEMBERS, and they are MEN, and THAT is my point. The GOP is still a “Good ol’ boy’s” network. I think they simply want to continue business as usual. I think they like the status quo.
 
They LIKE their pork.
 
They LIKE their earmarks.
 
McCain has made a real name for himself on the left by poking Republicans in the eye, and the GOP leadership know well Palin’s reputation for taking on head-on the corruption in her own party in Alaska.
 
They like things just as they are, and they don’t want some do-gooder with genuine integrity and love of country coming in and messing with tradition and screwing up the system for them!
 
…least of all a WOMAN!
 
Particularly after my own experience in an English Composition class at SDSU in 1998, I’d probably punch someone in the nose if they were to call me a feminist, but this looks pretty transparent to me.
 

Therefore the elite GOP establishment seems to have chosen to destroy what it is certain would be a huge pain in its neck, or at least to stand by gazing around and whistling as if unaware while the left continues its assault on her, exploiting the naïveté of Meghan McCain and the knucklehead Levi Johnston, and just sort of passively allow the left to destroy Palin.

And yet it is that very quality—among others—that have endeared Sarah Palin to the hearts of millions of voters.

So that’s the bad news; what’s the good news?

Tea Parties… Millions and millions of fed up, disgusted, Conservative Americans getting mad as hell who aren’t going to take it anymore… Rising numbers of Independents who now outnumber both the GOP and the DNC, due to folks defecting from both parties…

These masses are described to be more centrist, and so this does not necessarily seem to be going the way I would prefer. The piece I read does not specify which social issues were polled, so someone will have to convince me is not just a codeword for liberals in denial. I am willing to be convinced that what it really means is that this group of people are not necessarily polarized over abortion for instance, and would be willing to vote for a candidate who holds most of their values rather than voting for Mickey Mouse or staying home because there is no candidate who holds ALL of their values (Is "Old Lady" reading?)
 
What it does show is a growing dissatisfaction, and growing anger in both parties with the status quo, and the petty bickering over who is more corrupt, and who will take more money from higher income voters to redistribute to lower income voters, and who is lying about what, and with a Mainstream “news” Media that has chosen its side and given up every last shred of integrity and even any pretense of objectivity.
 

Could it be that a viable third party could rise from this growing group of Independents, the Tea Parties, and those remaining in both parties who are plain sick and tired and fed up?


The forces at work trying to destroy this country have successfully dragged both major parties further to the left than most people realize. I think if we were all honest, those like Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan would join the Communist Party.

 

The Democrats would rename themselves the Socialist Party.

 

The Republicans would rename themselves the Democratic Party.

 

The true Conservatives left over from any party would form a new Republican Party.


Might Sarah Palin be just the candidate that new party needs and wants, especially since the GOP apparently fears her, and no longer wants her?

Is Obama retaining the right to use [GASP!] “TORTURE”?

Even one of Obama’s Kool-Aid cheering section at the DailyKOS seems to be starting to get the inevitable hangover, and is reporting that Obama has apparently reserved the right to use enhanced interrogation techniques if he deems it necessary for national security!

The story at DailyKOS points to this passage from the Obama executive order on interrogation:

(i) to study and evaluate whether the interrogation practices and techniques in Army Field Manual 2 22.3, when employed by departments or agencies outside the military, provide an appropriate means of acquiring the intelligence necessary to protect the Nation, and, if warranted, to recommend any additional or different guidance for other departments or agencies...

Isn’t this is the guy who STILL claims that he has banned “torture”? He continues to rail against his predecessor as recently as May 21st, and his Administration at last check was still talking of pursuing prosecution of the Bush Justice Department for violation of whatever law they can get some activist liberal judge to interpret has been broken.

The Second Most Intolerant Religion in the World

There are two most intolerant religions in the world, not just Islam.

Christians, white Conservative men, and Conservative women and minorities are the only remaining groups that can be openly ridiculed and bigoted against, and people actually believe they are more sophisticated for doing so.

Disagree? Look how the left has pilloried Clarence Thomas but deified Barack Obama. Both the left AND the Republican elite have pilloried Sarah Palin, but until Obama came into the picture, the left worshipped Hilary Clinton.

The second most intolerant religion rewrites history and falsifies quotes to justify their beliefs and support their agenda.

They take a Sarah Palin request for prayer that people and companies would work together to built a pipeline that will not only bring revenue to the people of Alaska, but will bring hundreds of billions of cubic feet of cheap, clean natural gas to hungry American energy markets, and help free our nation of the chains of importing energy from countries who don’t have our best interests central in their minds.

It's not about doing what God wants. It's about praying to God that you're doing the right thing. But there’s another aspect that I hesitate even to mention because I am acutely aware how the left both misinterprets AND falsifies things. This is that prayer is also asking God to speak to the hearts of men—friend and foe alike—that they might see beyond petty grievances or self-serving desires, and do the right thing. This might be reasonably called “conscience”. And just to sort of pre-empt the left’s attack on this, I am well aware that they will both misinterpret and distort this last. I know how they think better than many of them do.

Atheism is the world’s SECOND MOST intolerant religion, and I think committed atheists would fall down in fits of convulsions if they ever saw how our Founding Fathers prayed, not to mention how our military leaders and our succeeding Presidents, including some of their Democratic heroes (big “D”), have prayed before major military operations such as the Normandy Invasion, or the Tarawa Invasion, or Pres. Truman before giving the order to drop the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

On the eve of the D-Day invasion to begin the final destruction of the Nazi German war machine in mainland Europe, a German-American from Abilene Kansas, (not Abilene Texas, as some sources state inaccurately—I’ve been to the museum that was his childhood home), agonized over the potential costs and giving the order to invade Normandy.

Dwight D. Eisenhower knew that tens of thousands might die—including civilians, and that they still might fail to secure a beachhead.

Ike had no more attractive options.

Eisenhower found it difficult to look men in the eye that night, knowing that he was ordering many of them to their deaths (actual American dead numbered 4,900). But look them in the eye he did. He walked through the camps of the 101st Airborne, and he looked them in the eye, and he shook their hands. He found in this THEIR reassurances that all would go well because the 101st Airborne was on the job. He did not leave their camps until every one of them had departed for France, well after midnight.

And back in his tent, he drafted a message that he never had to send, taking full responsibility for the failure of the D-Day Invasion. He even goofed on the date at the bottom of the note, and wrote July 5. He remarked to his assistant, "I hope to God I know what I'm doing."

It's about praying for wisdom and for guidance that you don't make a decision that wastes those men's lives. In those hours, is it so impossible to believe that this man prayed for guidance, and that our forces and our cause would prevail?

President FDR certainly did. On June 6, 1944, FDR led the nation in prayer:

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith. They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard. For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. Success may not come with rushing speed, but we shall return again and again; and we know by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph.

Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom.

 And for us at home -- fathers, mothers, children, wives, sisters and brothers of brave men overseas, whose thoughts and prayers are ever with them -- help us, Almighty God, to rededicate ourselves in renewed faith in Thee in this hour of great sacrifice. ...

 ... Give us strength, too -- strength in our daily tasks, to redouble the contributions we make in the physical and the material support of our armed forces.

And a peace that will let all men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil.

In today’s world, the left and the MSM would come unglued if it came to light that President Bush or even a military commander was unsure of the chances of success on the eve of the Iraq war invasion, and that he had prayed for wisdom and guidance that he was making the right decision.

Some might say that it’s a different situation, but not really. At the time of the Normandy Invasion, public support for the war was waning back home as America had already sustained heavy casualties. If the D-Day invasion had not gone well, there would have been hell to pay on the home front.

After all, it wasn’t Hitler who had attacked us at Pearl Harbor.

I think the left has collectively filled their heads with this idea that anyone who prays to God could only be looking for God to tell them what HE wants them to do, and in the mind of the atheist, this makes them “wacko”, and somehow violates the designed firewall between church and state.

In Mel Gibson's movie We Were Soldiers Once... and Young, Lt. Col. Moore prays with one of his soldiers before they went into battle with the North Vietnamese, even asking God to ignore his enemy’s “heathen prayers”. Say what you will about Hollywood, the REAL Lt. Col. Moore was Ok with Mel Gibson playing him, and endorsed the movie as historically accurate. I wonder if the left would consider Lt. Col Moore a wacko, now more than 40 years ago…

Stick to What You Know

I’m fascinated by how the left equates Christians and Conservatives, and by the caricatured view they have of Christians. They keep saying the things they do, based on this stereotype of Christians, and they really have no idea how silly they sound.

And ignorant.

And offensive.

Even people of my parents’ generation seem to have forgotten TV shows like Little House on the Prairie, and The Waltons. These shows portrayed people whose CHRISTIAN FAITH was the cornerstone of their lives. Were they wackos? But these shows were wildly popular in their day. What has changed in 30 years? We know the answer, but the left will never admit it.

What’s really disturbing is how they are able to justify rewriting history, falsifying Thomas Jefferson quotes, and just continue to perpetuate the out and out LIES about both him and Palin.

Sarah Palin said this in her church, and ignited a firestorm of controversy against her on the left.

"I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that,"


The first such claim I have seen was basically:
 

Palin told a church group that god wanted a pipeline in Alaska, and that’s absurd.


Sarah Palin did not say that GOD WANTS that pipeline.
 
She told a church congregation to pray for it. And actually, what Palin SAID, is PRAY THAT God's will be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built.
 

They call THAT extremism!


After I cited what Palin ACTUALLY said, the next step back in retreat was:
 

She said God wants people and companies to come together to build a pipeline, and that’s ridiculous.


Nothing
in this says that GOD WANTS a pipeline, NOR THAT he wants people and companies to come together to build the pipeline.
 
It doesn’t matter how many different ways you break this down or spell it out to people who hate Sarah Palin and who hate Christianity in general, they simply hear what they WANT to hear.
 
The left zooms in one part of a Sarah Palin statement in her church, that sometimes has been falsified, and sometimes not—and they never admit they were wrong. They might take a step backward in retreat as you smash their lies and false beliefs with reality, facts, and logic. But later they will always deny that concession. Like cockroaches who scatter before the light, once you move onto other things, they return to their previously held ground.
 
I make my living as a master of the written word (and my ability to horsewhip the chips of semiconductor material and the bits and bytes of various software applications to do what I want, for the most part). I also have a fairly diverse background and I have learned the technical language of a number of disciplines. Each discipline I have worked in has its own jargon in which outsiders are pretty much illiterate.
 
That is another concept being ignored here and being basically sodomized by the Left—Lingo. THEY PRESUME TO KNOW AND TO UNDERSTAND THE LINGO OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH THAT THEY SO DESPISE.
 

This is no less so for left wing journalists than for transplanted curmudgeons who try to read what they want into Christian prayers, speeches, doctrine, etc.

They should stick to what they know.
 
I'll reserve the cheap shot I could take here—that wouldn’t be very Christian of me. Suffice to say what they know AIN'T analysis/interpretation/criticism of Christian doctrine/preaching/beliefs/prayer.
 
THAT'S what's absurd, and I reserve the right to be annoyed by this incessant Left wing onslaught of DELIBERATE misquoting and misinterpreting Christians by people who, even if they had HONEST intentions, ALSO don’t know what they are talking about. They do it for the sole purpose of demonizing the faith whose values made this country great, and ridiculing its believers to discredit them.
 
But that is NOT extremism.
 
…even as they call Conservatives and Republicans LIARS on a daily basis.

What a World We Live In

What an upside-down, inside-out, up-is-down, right-is-wrong, right-is-left-and-left-is-just-plain-crazy, mixed-up world we live in.

The Left HATES Sarah Palin. They hated her within ten minutes of hearing her name. Even as they said they knew nothing about her, they hated her. They don’t just think she’s wrong. They don’t think she’s just misguided. They HATE her.

This is extremism:

I said I wasn’t going to waste my time looking up the Sarah Palin quotes, but I did. The more I looked into it the angrier I became.

If Sarah Palin’s words are extremism, then it follows that these words are extremism, right?

Was Lincoln a “Bible thumping crazy”? A “religious zombie”? A “Religious wingnut”? A “cyanide laced Kool-Aid drinker”?

How odd that Bill Clinton’s illicit sexual adventures in OUR Oval Office of OUR White House are his own private business, but a Sarah Palin statement made in a house of worship is everybody’s business.

Why is this not a pathetic and disgusting double standard?

But we should be used to the double standards by now, right?

What I found is that the lies about Sarah Palin are more subtle. When Sarah said she didn’t think that was her exact quote, and Charlie Gibson said “Exact words”, if he had an ounce of integrity or honesty, he would have had to say “Well, SOME of them, anyway”.

The quotes were not blatantly altered by inserting words as were the Thomas Jefferson quotes (though leaving out words can have the same effect as adding words). But after taking artistic license with them, the Left wing sources then feed their own interpretations. They can always claim that some of the speech was edited out “for brevity”. Or maybe it’s because Sarah Palin is living and therefore more likely to sue for some form of defamation than long dead Thomas Jefferson.

They twisted Sarah’s statement, which she made IN A CHURCH (no small distinction by the way), into this:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a “task that is from God.”…

The Left wing interpretation is that the Christian wacko Sarah Palin is asserting that the US government sent troops into harm’s way because somebody thought God directed them to.

There is another version that ALSO distorts what she actually said by omitting key words, as follows:

“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.”

Different approach, but has the same effect.

Now read again what she ACTUALLY said—especially note the underlined words that somehow don’t find their way into the versions published in the Left wing news media which were then repeated on the Left wing blogs:

Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right, also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan.”

These dishonest news hacks and Leftist bloggers are the same people who every day all day long call Conservatives and Republicans liars.

How weak is your argument when you must lie, and distort facts, and put words in people’s mouths, and omit clarifying words they actually said, and rewrite history to make your point?

Of course those eager to dislike (HATE!) Sarah Palin purely for her politics, those who have an anti-Christian agenda, and those who have an anti-Conservative agenda will hear something completely different and will be quick to attach themselves to anything negative about her, including any of these false interpretations.

And they call Christians religious lemmings?

Since I don’t have an agenda to find reasons to hate Sarah Palin, I hear something completely different even in the falsified versions. I hear nothing in her words that I didn’t hear in a number of churches thirty years ago, and really all my life.

Here just for clarity are the key words along with those that the news media and the Leftist bloggers are leaving out. The bracketed words I have repeated for emphasis as any good grammarian would do to analyze sentence structure.

I Repeat:

Bold = Words the Left wing news media edited out (Yeah, for brevity. Yeah, right.)

[Bracketed] = Words that I repeated for emphasis/clarity as a good grammarian would.

“Pray for our military men and women…”

 “[Pray] that our leaders… are sending them [our military men and women] out on a task that is from God.”

 “That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for…”

 “[pray] that there is a plan…”

 “and [pray] that that plan is God's plan.”

Any student of good grammar must agree this is what Palin really meant, and that it is quite different from the liberal hack hatchet job interpretation that Charlie Gibson, the rest of the Left wing news media, and all the Leftie bloggers continue to repeat.

Here are the problems with the Left wing distortions of this quote:

1. She said it in a CHURCH, not in some official government capacity, in City Hall, or even in the Governor’s Mansion.

And in the big picture of our historical heritage, so what if she did?

At what point between Abraham Lincoln and Sarah Palin did people—even elected officials—lose their free speech right to mention God, prayer, or faith, especially in a house of worship (unless that official happens to Barack Hussein Obama)?

At what point between Abraham Lincoln and Sarah Palin did a leader become a fanatic to pray that our nation is doing the right thing in line with God’s will (unless that official happens to Barack Hussein Obama)?

I’d love to hear what Abraham Lincoln would have to say to this current crop of yahoo’s in DC and in the Left wing news media about their anti-Christian extremism.

I submit that anyone who has an issue with Sarah Palin speaking about God and prayer in her hometown church should just start lobbying Congress to remove our right of free speech, and our freedom to worship as we please. Just be honest about what it is you REALLY want.

2. This creative revision changes Palin’s request for prayer that our leaders are sending our troops on a just mission into an assertion that they are on a mission from God and that she knows so because she knows God’s will.

No sane Christian would claim to know God’s will, and I don’t care what any twisted Left-winger or atheist says to the contrary.

THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.

You might find some wacko who professes to know God’s will, but you can’t swing a dead cat anymore without hitting a couple of wackos…

3. It changes her request for prayer that our troops have been sent on a just mission (“that that plan is God’s plan”), again into an assertion that she knows that the Iraq War is God’s plan.

Sarah Palin simply asked that the congregation pray that our national leaders are sending our military on a just mission.

She asked that the congregation pray that there is a plan. To me, and I believe many of us who actually have a bit of religious training, this simply means pray that it will work out in the end to be a net positive, not only for us, but for the Iraqis, and possibly for the entire world.

She asked that the congregation pray that the plan they are praying for is God’s plan/God’s will.

Period. See the Abraham Lincoln quote again.

4. Every election season the Democrats hold a POLITICAL CAMPAIGN EVENT in some Christian church or another and stand around blathering about their Christian faith.

If the Republicans did that, the Left wing news media would give that church a proctological examination. There would surely be cries about separation of church and state, and there would be cries that the church was violating its tax exempt status.

But when the Democrats do it we get Can o’ Crickets

5. Barack Obama gave pastor Rick Warren an interview in which he said:

“As a starting point, it means I believe in -- that Jesus Christ died for my sins, and that I am redeemed through him. That is a source of strength and sustenance on a daily basis. Yes, I know that I don't walk alone. And I know that if I can get myself out of the way, that I can maybe carry out in some small way what he intends. And it means that those sins that I have on a fairly regular basis, hopefully will be washed away.

But what it also means, I think, is a sense of obligation to embrace not just words, but through deeds, the expectations, I think, that god has for us. And that means thinking about the least of these. It means acting -- well, acting justly, and loving mercy, and walking humbly with our god. Call to Democrats! Get Over Bush Already!

Anyone who has read all of my posts must admit I have been very critical of George Bush, but there comes a point… The Left just cannot get over Bush! Any alien who might be watching our 2008 election coverage broadcasts some number of light years hence will surely be convinced that Obama/Biden were running against Sarah Palin’s pregnant daughter, and George Bush!

If you discussed some of the worst tyrants in recent history, the typical Leftist will say something like “Well, no one is ALL bad! There’s a little good in everybody!” But I guarantee if you asked “What about George Bush?” their answer would be “Ok, everybody except Bush!”

And even now, more than 60 days after the inauguration, it’s as if Bush is right there on the stage with Obama everywhere he speaks! That’s a pretty pathetic platform only defined by being the Anti-Bush! Get over it already! Gore lost in 2000. Kerry lost in 2004. Even the news media that was in Gore’s corner through the entire campaign concluded in their own recount that Bush had more votes!

The classic sore losers, the Left has never been satisfied with that. Conveniently ignoring the fact that Gore tried to have military absentee ballots thrown out to steal the election, the left has non-stop accused Bush instead of stealing the election.

Then the personal attacks began. Bush is an idiot. Bush is a moron. Bush can’t speak properly. Bush can’t THINK properly (define “think properly”!)

Bush is a drunk. Bush is a DRY drunk (which is it?)

Bill Maher even retouched a photo of Laura Bush to make her look black and blue from a savage beating, and his cackling sycophants cheered. That’s a moral high road!

Then there was Cheney is Darth Vader. There was Halliburton blah, blah, blah… Yeah, Cheney quit a $44 Million a year job to “get rich” in a $400,000 a year government job as second fiddle to a moron, a liar, and a drunk while being called a liar and Darth Vader. It all just shows how shallow is the thinking on the Left.

After March 2003, they minted “Bush lied and people died”, which is itself a bald-faced lie.

The left has gone so far as to develop quotes some atheist “embellished”, and then attributed to Thomas Jefferson, making it appear as if Jefferson were really an atheist. They ignore history, and when they can’t ignore it, they rewrite it. They falsify 1970’s National Guard documents pertaining to a sitting President in order to influence an election. And they universally call Conservatives and Republicans liars.

Which brings me to an observation. The vast majority of churches in this country have always been some flavor of Christianity. It used to be a sign to a community that you were a decent human being and a pillar of the community to be active in a church, or especially to be a church deacon.

Still, every election season the Democrats hold some kind of campaign event in some Christian church (tax exempt status notwithstanding!) Bill Clinton also took pains to be seen carrying a huge Bible when it was expedient, and Hilary Clinton famously faked a southern accent in one such church:

I have family members who were once Christ believing, God-believing people. Maybe they weren’t the most devout and didn’t go to church every time the doors were open, but they talked regularly to their kids about God and Jesus and the Bible and prayer.

There has been a dramatic change in just the last few years. Now I hear these same family members and friends say things like “Bible thumping crazies”, “idiotic reasonings of religious conservatives”, “Religious wingnuts are the real cyanide laced Kool-Aid drinkers”. I can see this shift, but they cannot.

And then there were some alleged Sarah Palin quotes that have been similarly “embellished” to distort the truth and to paint Sarah as a wacko.

These liberals often claim that conservatives just don’t “Understand both sides of an issue”, and that conservatives should “give well-researched, reasoned arguments to back up their claims.”

Understand both sides?

Riddle me this…

The left OWNS Hollywood, all of the public schools, almost all of the universities (and now apparently even Notre Dame!), most of the newspapers, the textbook industry, all but one cable news channel, both taxpayer funded public radio and TV—NPR and PBS, and now all the branches of government except for the judiciary whose days are numbered under this Administration.

We read and listen to Liberal stuff all day long and every day of the week (Often we have no choice).

And the conservatives whom THEY watch, listen to and read for THEIR understanding of OUR side…?

The Left refuses to listen to "Faux News". To the Left, truly smart, educated, informed Conservatives WHO ARE ALSO DECENT HUMAN BEINGS, like Laura Ingraham, Hugh Hewitt, Glenn Beck and Dennis Prager are the devil spawn. And from the comments of some Dem family members, the left has even succeeded in demonizing the Heritage Foundation. Wow.

The answer is they don’t watch or listen to or read any real conservatives. They get their understanding of OUR side from Leftist bomb thrower bloggers who rewrite history, and from Leftist talking head “journalists” who get tingles up their leg from the thought of an Obama Presidency. They get their understanding of OUR side from Rush Limbaugh quotes GENUINELY TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT for the sole purpose of creating a diversion from the real crime being perpetrated by Congress and the White House. Those on the Left usually never actually HEAR Jeremiah Wright’s “No-No-No! GD America!” rants. They typically only hear Obama describe him as the crazy uncle that nobody pays any attention at the family gathering, with a still photo of the racist, hate filled, America hating reverend in the background.


And in the end, here is one key difference between the Left and the Right. The Right doesn’t consider most of those on the Left to be “Bad”, but just wrong—often ignorant and sometimes foolish and naïve about history, the real world and the nature of evil, economics, and finance, misinformed by the various ministries of propaganda (MSNBC, CNN, NPR, PBS, New York Times, TIME Magazine, etc.), and blinded by their ideology.

To the Left however, if you’re a Conservative or a Republican, you’re not just WRONG in their view, you’re a BAD PERSON, AND if you’re a woman or a minority and a conservative, you are the dimmest kind of moron!

The left also advises “give well-researched, reasoned arguments”. Really? Is that what the Left does?

This is by far not the first time I’ve seen this kind of chicanery, hence my skepticism regarding the supposed Sarah Palin quotes, which proved to be spot on.

I find it interesting that they find comfort in what they believe to be Jefferson’s words, but they ignore or are unaware of Jefferson’s actual warnings about the dangers of a central bank as Obama grabs and consolidates and demands more and more power.

But I’ll be charitable. Assuming just for a sec that these quotes were authentic, remember that he was a founder and then President of an infant nation based on Christian principles while he TOOK THAT YOUNG NATION TO WAR against the ISLAMIC nation of Tripoli. Which did he fear most?

I wonder if Jefferson was after their oil too! Or maybe he was just trying to enrich some Revolutionary ancestor of Halliburton’s founders?

I find it interesting that the left first equates conservatives and the Christian right, but also believes that conservatives (who are therefore automatically Christians), want to force their personal religious beliefs on the country through public office.

For one thing, I don’t know ANYONE like that! Real Conservatives will always hold that our Founding Fathers understood that there should be a secular government whose power derives from the people who live in a society then based overwhelmingly on Judeo-Christian principles. To claim that anything else happened is revisionist history, just like these “quotes” attributed to the great Thomas Jefferson.

For another, it’s not the Christians trying to force their views on anyone. Christians aren’t trying to go around and mandate that crosses be put up and Ten Commandments plaques be put up in places they never existed before. It is the LEFT who is going around forcing REMOVAL of crosses that have always been in place, or that have been in place for many, many years.

We can argue all day long whether overturning Roe V. Wade and giving the decision back to the states to pass their own laws at the state level WRT abortion is forcing personal religious beliefs on this country through public office, but reasonable people would have to admit they have a terribly weak hand. Again, Roe V. Wade is REALLY what this entire debacle is all about, and the REAL reason the Left seeks to demonize and discredit Christians as wackos.

When in the last 1,000 years have Christians been responsible for anything like “Millions of innocent men, women and children… burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned…” Ok, hardly millions, but I’ll give you Scarlet letters and the Salem witch trials. How about something in the last 400 years?

During that time we have seen many millions murdered by people who had nothing to do with Christianity, and in the 20th Century alone we had Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Hirohito, Lenin, Polpot, Castro, and Che, just to name a few! Again, how many hundred millions have been murdered by these NON-Christian tyrants? Can you say Darfur? South Africa? Somalia? Ethiopia? What CHRISTIAN is responsible for the tens of millions dead and dying in these places in just the last ten years?

To say nothing of the millions of babies slaughtered every year in THIS country, definitely NOT by Christians!

Furthermore, the CHRISTIAN George Bush gets NO CREDIT from the left for having done more to HELP the people of those nations than any President in US history.

For the record, I opposed his $15 Billion AIDS aid package, but far be it from the Left to give Bush credit for ANYTHING! And, where’s the oil in THOSE places?

As I have noted, some conservatives seem to have been caught off guard by how far left Obama really is, but those of us who know history and have been paying attention have much darker fears than even this attempt at humor portrays.

It's apparent to me that a Democrat must have put this together, and proves once again that the Right understands the Left far better than the Left understands the Right.

He Played This Country Like a Harp From Hell [Part 2]

 

I’m stunned. I think the only thing I find more shocking than that Obama won, is the surprise of many, just two months into his administration, how radical and how far left he really is.

Michael Medved said that Obama is turning out to be “shockingly radical”.

What?

Even Mary Katherine Hamm said that she is surprised that he just seems really inexperienced and in over his head.

What?

Where have you people been for the last two years?

I take great pleasure in listening to Chris Mathews begin to lament the decline of his own portfolio. When does it end? He asked!

But I really did not expect this kind of surprise from conservatives who we would think went in with their eyes more open than Chris Mathews or even the average Democrat.

I'm hearing about all these ANGRY people emailing folks like Hannity, and I can't help but ask, WHERE WERE ALL YOU ANGRY PEOPLE DURING THE ELECTION?!?!?!?

What really scares me is the thought that if these folks had known, might they have done more to see that Obama was defeated. Now we’re all paying the price, Republican AND Democrat.
